The overall objective of this proposal is:
- To make a fundamental contribution to the management of dengue disease in the human populations of Latin America and Asia.
The scientific objectives are as follows:
- Development and implementation of new diagnostic tools using ligand binding molecules and chemiluminescent biosensor technique,
- Comprehensive approach of innate immune response to dengue virus infection,
- Development of lead compounds inhibitors of dengue virus replication.
Additional goals are:
- Collection of well-characterized clinical and biological data, and identification of prognosis factors involved in disease severity,
- Standardisation of the current diagnostic assays and implementation of inter-laboratory control procedures,
- Technological transfer activities.
Achievement of the stated goals will require a multi-disciplinary approach integrating the following disciplines: medical virologists, clinicians, epidemiologists, flavivirologists, molecular and cellular biologists, specialists in proteomics, immunologists, medicinal chemists, specialists in drug discovery and specialists in physiopathology
