PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The overall objective of this proposal is:

  • To make a fundamental contribution to the management of dengue disease in the human populations of Latin America and Asia.

The scientific objectives are as follows:

  • Development and implementation of new diagnostic tools using ligand binding molecules and chemiluminescent biosensor technique,
  • Comprehensive approach of innate immune response to dengue virus infection,
  • Development of lead compounds inhibitors of dengue virus replication.

Additional goals are:

  • Collection of well-characterized clinical and biological data, and identification of prognosis factors involved in disease severity,
  • Standardisation of the current diagnostic assays and implementation of inter-laboratory control procedures,
  • Technological transfer activities.

Achievement of the stated goals will require a multi-disciplinary approach integrating the following disciplines: medical virologists, clinicians, epidemiologists, flavivirologists, molecular and cellular biologists, specialists in proteomics, immunologists, medicinal chemists, specialists in drug discovery and specialists in physiopathology
